I wanted to love this book...turns out, even though the writing was just as good as ever, I didn't fall in love with the characters. They had their moments when i went "awe", but I wasn't completely swept up in the story like I usually am.
Even though Bear Whiskey starts out as sexy and alpha as you can get, he slowly dissolved into something I wasn't all that fond of. He was almost too soft. Now, what girl wouldn't want a man who worships them? And he did worship Crystal...but he changed to the point where I was thinking to myself "where is Bear and why did he let this other guy take his place?"...and Crystal??? Hmmm...I wanted to applaud her and smack her in the same chapter. I understand she was traumatized and dealing with her past, BUT she was flipping and flopping more than a bi-polar catfish out of water.
Melissa Foster is absolutely one of my favorite authors and I'll read the next book...and the next...and the next...and I'm certain Bear will show up in future books. Hopefully, he'll find his alpha backbone before then.
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone...it's just not one of my favorites.

Sexy, funny and so much fun to read. Truman’s (Tru Blue) best friend Bear Whiskey, and Gemma’s best friend Crystal have been circling each other for eight months. When would he be able to break down her walls?

Crystal Moon is Gemma’s partner in their business, Princess for a Day. They supply costumes and atmosphere for little girls events. Crystal had a tough childhood, especially after her dad was killed by a drunk driver, leaving her mom too devastated to raise Crystal and her brother Jed. Crystal worked hard, kept her grades up and was able to get away to college. But without explanation to anyone, suddenly dropped out and ended back in her home town. She met Gemma and started her present life. Her mother has become a cold and bitter alcoholic, and Crystal sees her once a month, a dreaded chore. She and Bear have had this smoldering heat between them for months, sexy banter and innuendos constant. But something was holding Crystal back, and Bear wanted to know why.

Bear Whiskey is a brilliant mechanic that runs Whiskey Automotive and their family bar. His sister Dixie takes care of finances and wants more responsibility. Bones, a physician and, Bullet retired military round out the family. With his brother in med school and Bullet deployed all over the world, Bear and Dixie took care of the family and business. But Bear wanted more and he wanted it with Crystal. Being close to Truman and Gemma brought Lincoln and Kennedy into his life and filled his heart. He wanted his own. Finally, Crystal was ready to tell Bear her secret and try to put it behind her. She was terrified how he would react. But, he overwhelmed her with his protectiveness and his love. Cocky, arrogant Bear, had a heart that filled her with love. He gave her courage and determination to put the past behind her. She gave him a dream he never expected.

This can be read as a stand-alone, but Tru Blue is wonderful too, and sets up the Whiskey stories. You will gain a whole new appreciation of French fries dunked in a milk shake!
Crystal has started fresh since leaving college and is starting to feel like her life is on track. She’s got a loyal, supportive best friend in Gemma, a growing business that lets her gift and love for fashion design shine and she’s got a “family” of friends in Gemma, Truman and the whole Whiskey clan.

One of the Whiskey clan however, feels much more than brotherly love for Crystal. Bear Whiskey knew from the moment he met Crystal that she was it for him. Unfortunately he’s had a tough time convincing her that he’s right. They’ve become great friends and he’s never without his arm around her, but anytime their passion and attraction builds into anything more than that, Crystal slams the brakes on.

Her reluctance to take a chance on Bear confuses him. To himself and everyone around them, the fireworks and crazy chemistry between Crystal and Bear is evident. Even Crystal will admit that she’s attracted to him and loves spending time with him, but something from her past is stopping her from moving forward.

After 8 months of foreplay and Bear’s determined pursuit, will she figure out how to give him a chance, or will he give up and admit that he can’t change her mind?

Bear Whiskey is just about the most perfect man I’ve recently read in a romance novel. He’s loyal to a fault, kind, generous, hardworking and absolutely adorable with his niece and nephew. He’s somehow a sweet talker and a dirty talker! He’s patient, understanding and has the biggest heart. He cuddles kittens for Pete’s sake! But when it comes down to the safety or happiness of someone he loves, he turns from a teddy bear to a fierce papa bear to protect his own. To Bear family is everything.

Standalone. HEA. Characters from Melissa Foster’s book Tru Blue are major supporting characters in this book and the epilogue will mean much more to you if you’ve read Tru Blue, but to enjoy Truly, Madly, Whiskey you do not have to read Tru Blue first.
