Bunyan Characters 3rd Series eBook Alexander Whyte
How is character formed and how important is our character? Here's what Alexander Whyte says in his introduction, "For acts, often repeated, gradually become habits, long enough continued, settle and harden and solidify into character." [Loc. 42]. It's not every day that you find a book like this, a collective biography of fictional characters from a fictional book. Next to the Bible, The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan has stood the test of time. If you've ever wondered from whence came the character of Evangelist who was based on John Gifford, an ex-royalist major, who escaping the gallows after Cromwell's victory at Maidstone, later became a Christian and led Bunyan to Christ. Learn the backgrounds, biblical and biographical behind Obstinate and Pliable, Mr. Worldly- Wise Man, Help, Great-heart and Good Will, the gatekeeper of the little wicket gate where Christian went to be rid of the heavy burden of sin on his back. Alexander Whyte, 1836-1921, was most known for his fiery preaching, but also as Scottish Covenanter and mystic. It's enjoyable reading, not light, but practical, Scriptural, and challenging. Beginning with Bunyan's own descriptions in the text of each allegorical character, he then pulls in Biblical references to flesh out each "biography"- I first ran across this author in another kindle book which I own entitled 50 People Every Christian Should Know by Warren Wiersbe. Such men of God. It's not a book that you have to read all at once. I read two this morning after my Bible reading time, and was blessed by the insights.Product details

Bunyan Characters 3rd Series eBook Alexander Whyte Reviews
Wow, these books by Whyte on the different characters in Bunyon's books made me really understand Bunyon's books better. For a man of little learning he was so smart. I didn't have any trouble with it being an old book, in fact made it more enjoyable.
Very useful when you are reading Pilgrims Progress by John Bunyan.
It will give you some more thought on how the book applies to you spiritual life.
This is an awesome book! I am taking a class through Ligioner Connect taught by Dr. Derek Thomas on the Book Pilgrims Progress and he quotes this book quite often. Highly Recommend
This book was referenced a few times in Derek Thomas' lectures in a Ligonier DVD course, so I looked it up. There are between 6-8 pages on each of the characters in Bunyan's book, fleshing out character traits and expounding on the themes and ideas that should warn and encourage Christians. Dr. Thomas and Alexander Whyte have caused Pilgrim's Progress to become one of my favorite and encouraging books. I'm finding all sorts of connections and helps when working with hurting believers. I heartily recommend this volume.
It can be read alongside Bunyan, fleshing out the allegory or dipped into, a section at a time, for meditation and spiritual growth.
Alexander Whyte's insights are enlightening. I discovered him through his exposition of Samuel Rutherford's letters, and haven't ceased in reading his wonderful prose. He was a minister of passion and zeal; wise and keenly insightful of the characters he revered, John Bunyan being among the foremost. In this second series he lifts the veil of Christiana and her companions as well as some other landmarks told us in Pilgrim's Progress. A. Whyte is among my favorite as I study these divines of the 19th century in their incredible writings. Interesting (to me), he succeeded my other favorite of that age, Marcus Dods, as principal and professor of New Testament literature at New College, Edinburgh
